Finding The Right Chronic Pain Doctor

Now the search begins.

Where do you find the right chronic pain doctor that best fits your needs?

This may be a neurologists, pain management specialists, chiropractor or surgeon.

We have been to all of these.

O.K.--- Now what.

Your normal life has just hit a road block.

Pain management doctor.

A big one!

Now what do you do?

Take it, one step at a time. The first thing is, to find the very best chronic pain doctor for your particular illness. That is first and foremost.

So, many doctors don't really understand what chronic pain is all about and furthermore, they don't know how to treat it properly. I am only saying this from experience.

You have a whole array of physicians to choose from. Medical doctors, psychiatrist, pain management, therapists, and many other specialists.

By far, the pain management specialists my husband has been to, have been the most help. I'm not saying they have all the answers all the time but by far understand the most.

They will monitor your medications and alter the dosage as, they go. If, you find the medication isn't working, they most often will try you on something else.

They do keep an account of what is and isn't working, for you, and move ahead accordingly.

Most types of pain have become treatable. Through methods including medications, nerve blocks, physical therapy, pain pump, electrical stimulation, surgery, and psychological support.

The role of the pain management specialist is to make a plan for and to aid the patient to be able to function, even though the patient may still be experiencing pain.

By, doing physical activities at very low pace, patients can develop their tolerance to such an activity. You will recognize your limits.

This together with medications could get you back some sense of a normal life. After all, that is all a person in pain is striving for, "a normal life".

Following the guidelines, set up by the pain management doctor, this will take you safely to a point you will feel comfortable with.

Pain management specialists also attend to behavioral, psychological and social factors.

From the beginning, pain management doctors involve the patient in their own care. They do this through assessment, conversation and feedback.

Pain Management Specialists:

  • They will consider how the patient feels and their beliefs about their condition and their pain.
  • Discuss the patient's lifestyle and their efforts in living with and managing their pain.
  • Approach psychological and social issues associated with the patient's condition of pain, when this is appropriate.
  • Help encourage patients to focus on effective coping mechanisms.

You must feel compassionate that this is the right chronic pain doctor that fits your needs the best.
