Chronic Pain Medications

And Addiction

Do you suffer from chronic pain?

Is it getting worse?

Are you taking too many chronic pain medications?

Are you worried about addiction? The real addictive drugs that are prescribed by doctors contains an Opioid. The widespread public health issue is that people in debilitating pain aren't getting the painkillers they need.

This is because of the fear of addiction. While opioid painkillers -- like OxyContin, Percocet, and Vicodin -- have risks, they're often outweighed by their benefits to chronic pain patients.

Still they are addictive. For patients that are trying to make the pain disappear and over medicate, could have a problem when the medication runs out and it isn't time for a refill. That is when the chronic pain really takes it's toll.

This would be good time to question yourself, am I addicted to chronic pain medications?

Are the fears of addiction for the patient as bad as we think they are? Perhaps-- but, the benefits far outweigh the risks. People that take chronic pain medication, strictly for pain, are less likely to become addicted.

In pain sufferers, addiction is not often recognizable. They might call in their prescriptions early. Maybe, if someone else in the household has a similar medication they will take that, also. When it does become recognizable the patient will be ashamed.

It is time to see your doctor for some help with the problem. Don't be ashamed. It can happen to anybody.

Those who suffer from pain usually don't get a euphoric feeling from the drugs they take. The drugs are consumed by the pain itself.

I know each time my husbands medications were increased that was his worry. Am I taking too much and become addicted to all the pain medication he was taking. That was when we found out that the pain was using the drugs and not his entire body.

The medication is there to help reduce the pain to a bearable situation. Nothing short of a miracle, will make the pain completely disappear.

People in pain have to have the medication to function. Without it, they would have no life, for themselves or their families. The idea of doing without the medication for those that need it is not an option.
