Symptoms of Fibromyalgia
Most people with symptoms of fibromyalgia, say that their muscles feel like they have just had a extreme workout and pushed to their limit. This may cause cramping and add to the pain you already have. Your skin may even feel very tender from someone’s touch. To help your family and friends understand your fibromyalgia symptoms, have them think back to the last time they had the flu real bad. They will remember how achy, tired and a general feeling of no energy to do anything. And, the medications that helped them to get better. Here are some of the Symptoms of Fibromyalgia : - Poor Sleeping- Because of the many symptoms, poor sleep is the worst. Your body can’t relax enough for you to go into restful sleep, therefore you get up just as or more tired as you did before you went to bed.
It is important to make sleep a priority. Bring everything you will need during the night to bed with you (ie) glass of water, medication for pain, heartburn, or restless leg syndrome. This way you won’t have to get up and completely wake yourself up. Poor sleep is a major stressor. - Irritable Bowel Syndrome- Constipation, abdominal pains, and diarrhea are some chronic symptoms found in fibromyalgia patients. Acid reflux, not just indigestion, is also common.
- Memory / Fibro-Fog- This is most disturbing because you mind won’t function correctly. You deal as though you are in a daze. You have trouble thinking straight, you feel like your memory is jumbled up and you have a hard time staying focused on a task.
- Limit Your Exercise- Strenuous exercise is fine for healthy people but not for fibromyalgia patients. You need to stay active but don’t overdo.
But, if you don’t get some sort of exercise daily, your muscles will weaken and you will be in more pain. Learn to pace yourself. Do what needs to be done and the rest can wait for another day. - Chronic Headaches- These are seen in about 60 to 70 % of patients with fibromyalgia. These pose a problem with our coping mechanisms our body is already suffering with due to the pain.
- Restless Leg Syndrome- A creepy crawly feeling in your legs. You have the irresistible urge to keep them moving to ease the discomfort that it causes. This will also disrupt your sleep if it is not treated.
Fibromyalgia is related to arthritis which means it includes inflammation and pain of the muscle. Women with a family member that has fibromyalgia are more susceptible to have it. Usually sufferers of fibromyalgia have a history of another chronic pain condition. This could be whiplash from an accident, irritable bowel syndrome, headaches, rheumatoid arthritis, back pain, or repetitive strain injury.
