Workmans Compensation
And How To Survive
Workmans compensation laws vary from state to state. They are like so many other health
insurance
, that certain things need a pre-approval. The “hurry up and wait process” is what I call it.
Having to struggle with this ,after an on the job injury, can be daunting. It is supposed to be there to aid the injured worker with medical costs, weekly compensation payments and the feeling of assurance, that everything will be fine. This will only be a fraction of what you were making when you were working. You will find, it isn’t enough to keep the bills paid and buy groceries. They make you feel like they are doing you a favor. I guess they are looking out for you. I say with tongue and cheek humor. As long as you are getting a check, you cannot get an attorney to represent you. This is the agreement you made by accepting the compensation check. Although, as soon as you attain an attorney the checks will stop. You are on your own to survive and they know this. They are banking you will just accept the money and not file suit against the employer. I know this is the way it is in the state that we are from and many others as well. All medical procedures have to be approved that are requested by your doctors. The wait, for these, could take a long time, if they are approved at all. If the doctor is insistent on your having a particular test or procedure , he may have to file more than once just to get it approved. All this takes away finding the root cause for your getting better. It is so important to find out what is wrong with you. Waiting just makes the pain worse and causes more stress and discomfort for you and your family. Workmans compensation may work well for some but for most it will be troubling. I wish you much luck with yours, if you ever have to file a claim.
